@7.00pm

This gig brings together two of British/Bengali heritage’s highly accomplished artists – vocalist Sohini Alam and contemporary jazz pianist Zoe Rahman, with a special focus on vocal improvisation.

Zoe Rahman is a celebrated contemporary jazz pianist and composer whose expressive playing has earned her major UK jazz awards and international acclaim. Described in The Observer as “a remarkable pianist by any standard”, Rahman's style is deeply rooted in jazz yet it reflects her classical background, British/Bengali heritage and her very broad musical taste. A MOBO Award winner, Mercury Prize nominee and Ivor Novello Award winner, Zoe has established herself as a unique presence in the British music industry and has performed around the world.

Sohini Alam’s musical repertoire is rooted in folk, modern, and traditional Bengali music. A third-generation singer from a family of renowned Bangladeshi vocalists, her work is deeply informed by traditional forms while continually evolving through contemporary expression. She is particularly known for Nazrul songs and Rabindra sangeet.
